Architect Of Eternal Beauty

January 10, 2019

“Even the wrath of man, energized by our flesh, directed by hell’s wisdom, and approved by the world, will further God’s eternal purpose to reveal Himself above all else as worthy of praise. His worthiness does not center in a commitment to our immediately felt well-being. The world, the flesh, and the devil are allowed to have their influence on our lives. But He continues to reveal Himself as the source and architect of eternal beauty available nowhere else, the beauty of perfect love in action during good times and hard. His activity, the whole of history, unfailingly furthers the ‘purpose of his will, to the praise of His glorious grace’ in saving sinners such as me (Eph. 1:5-6 ESV).”

Dr. Larry Crabb, When God’s Ways Make No Sense, “What Does It Mean to Say God Is Sovereign?,” pg 205

Questions for Reflection:
• During the times when it feels like evil—in your own heart, in your circumstances and/or in the world at large—is winning, do you draw near to God or retreat from Him?
• What deliberate choices of trust and openness to Him are you being invited to make today?
• Since the ultimate act of evil, injustice and defeat—the crucifixion of Jesus—resulted in God’s triumph of redemption for us, what does living in hope look like today for you amid the battle with darkness that you are facing?
