God’s Promise—If We Draw Near To Him

September 26, 2018

“How we come to God doesn’t guarantee how God will come to us or when He’ll let us feel His presence with us. Nothing we do makes anything happen.

But since the New Covenant is now in place, drawing near to God does guarantee that He’ll draw near to us, in His own times and in His own way, not because of the merit of our coming, but because of His gracious promise to draw near to us if we draw near to Him.”

Dr. Larry Crabb, The Pressure’s Off, Chapter 16, “Five Building Blocks of New Way Living,” pg 158

Questions for Reflection:
• In what ways do you still find yourself trying to earn God’s approval or convince Him to cooperate with your plans?
• Is your life marked increasingly by rest and companionship in God’s work of transformation or by pressure to obey Him and effort to live well?
• Since you have Jesus’ work in redeeming you and sharing with you His life and the Father’s invitation to come boldly to Him, what do you allow to stand in the way of confidently enjoying God?
