Drawing Near To God Will Purify Our Desires

October 21, 2015

“When any ambition other than drawing near to God assumes first-place significance in our hearts, whether the ambition is blatantly self-serving or clearly kingdom-advancing, we’re living the Old Way.

Drawing near to God will purify our desires and energize godly ambition to counsel well, preach powerfully, and write helpful books, and that’s good. When our first-place privilege of nearness to God remains in first place, we abide in the vine; second-place desires become sought-after blessings. Then fruit grows on the branch. That’s New Way living.”

Dr. Larry Crabb, The Pressure’s Off, Page 53

Questions for Reflection:
• Consider the things that have taken most of your time, energy and mental focus lately.
• Have you been primarily living to draw near to God or driven by desires for other things?
• Take some time to thank God for His mercy and ask His Spirit to work in your heart, re-ordering your attention and actions to embrace intimacy with Him as your greatest treasure.
