A Deepening of Narcissism and a Shallowing of Humility

November 20, 2013

“I tremble when I think of all that has passed for self-discovery in therapy offices during the past several decades. We’ve seen our pain, felt our longings, faced our abuse, embraced ourselves as victims, and found the freedom to pursue whatever dreams promise life. The effect has been a deepening of narcissism and a shallowing of humility. We’re more proud and less broken than perhaps ever before. We’ve discovered in ourselves only those appetites that more blessings can satisfy. As a culture, modern Christianity is committed to the Old Way.

“It could be different.”

Dr. Larry Crabb, The Pressure’s Off, Page 170

Question for Reflection:
How have you seen the Old Way play out in your life?
How has God changed you to live differently?
