Surely God Couldn’t Be That Good

October 26, 2011

“Surely God couldn’t be that good.”  And with that doubt, Adam disconnected himself from God, unaware of the incredible mess he was setting loose.

Drastic consequences follow when a creature breaks away from the creator. For Adam, the immediate consequence was terror.  “Can I go back? Does He hate me? I stand exposed as one who broke the one command God gave. I can’t bear to see His eyes. I must look away. I’ll make it on my own.  Let’s see, what resources do I have for taking hold of my life?”

Questions for Reflection:
How have you broken away (disconnected) from God?
What have the consequences (or mess) been to you, family or friends?
Does the sentence “Surely God couldn’t be that good” seem to be at the center of all your messes? If so explain.
